This weekend Chicago will host 45,000 runners for its popular marathon. Running a marathon is a spectacular accomplishment, and I had a very emotional and proud moment crossing those finish lines after 26.2 miles.
But this weekend, somewhere a newish mother is going to hear the unmistakable “thwap thwap” of her postpartum belly as she sets out for her first post-baby run. For her, I cheer loudest.
Read here at the Momoir Blog about my first run after my older child was born by C-section. Happy running! Happy parenting!

Congratulations! I’m training for my first half-marathon in May. If I make to the finish line aline, I will surely burst into tears as well
You will make it. It will feel sensational!!! Go you.
Wow. I commend you, not a 13.1 even butva 26.2 i hadn’t been to the gym or done more than walking for 5 years, yea I know…. I went back and did the treadmill, a 3k in 44 min, not stellar but I was damned proud. I have asthma and when I run even a bit my HR skyrockets past danger zone so I have to be wimpy and I hate it. So marathoners have my respect and admiration.
And you have mine! Asthma ain’t easy!
that’s amazing that you ran a marathon!! i’d cry to if actually finished!! i’m going out for a run now – i’m newly inspired! .. but really, the thwack thwack.. hee hee.. funny.
I was flapping in the wind!
run done!! yay!! coffee is being administered. internal happy dance ensues..
